Colic does it ever end?

Studies have shown that colic in babies normally starts in the second or third week of a baby's life and normally lasts for 6 to 8 weeks Attempts to avoid colic-induced sessions by feeding, burping, rocking, or adjusting the diaper are ineffective, unlike normal infant crying. The condition subsidies around 3 to 4 months of age. However, in some cases, babies especially pre-mature babies may have colic up to 6 months.

Parents often cradle a colicky baby face down, in order to assist in relieving the baby of gas. More effective method is to place your hand under the baby’s belly and put the baby’s head on your forearm while keeping the baby’s face down. The pressure from this method on the baby’s stomach will the baby get rid of gas that is bothering them.

Babies who cry often, may take in a lot of air in a short amount of time. This can make them feel bloated and gassy, as well as make their crying worse. Burping them on the back with soft thumps can help to relieve gas.

Many doctors postulate that babies sleep better when they hear noises similar to those heard in the womb. Shushing sound made with your mouth is one example of such noises. White-noise audio files, radio static, rain or hair dryer are other examples. Today, theses noises are available in many apps or online music libraries to buy. These sounds may be seem noisy to you, but they are soothing to babies because they are similar to what they heard in the womb. Distracting a colic or gassy baby also helps them to get their minds of the uneasiness that they are experiencing. Some babies like to be in the Baby-walker, others may like a drive in the car.

Other things that may be useful for colic or gassy babies are:

  1. Gripe Water
  2. If formula feed (Hipp Comfort Milk)
  3. Biaga Drops
  4. Lefax Liquid Pump

Remember, there is nothing wrong with comforting your baby during this time period. You are also not a bad parent if you let your baby cry because you need a break to catch your breath and recollect yourself. Don’t forget to ask for or accept help if you are overwhelmed, We are all humans and no one is perfect.
