Postpatrum must haves

When little creatures come to this world, they need a lot of little stuff from diapers to bibs and endless clothes to teethers. They need everything in a larger quantity because they need them every hour. You would be changing a diaper and they will spit-up so you will be changing the bib as well. But what do you need after birth? There are several things that you would need to make your post-partum period comfortable. Let’s explore them.

Pads:

This is obvious that you will need larger pads right after giving birth. These pads are larger and wider than the normal pads (used during the menstruation period). The hospital provides them while you are there. But you will need them at home as well. As you will be experiencing five to seven weeks of menstruation period so you should have a pack or two of them.

It is recommended to buy maxi pads as they are larger and do not cause any harm to your sensitive part.

Knitted underwear:

Woven or knitted underwear is also an essential that you would need right after birth. Use woven or mesh underwear to avoid causing itching or soring of the vaginal part. Hospital also provides a pair of them because you instantly need them. But it is recommended to buy 2 pairs for use at home as well. They mostly come in a disposable material but that’s actually up to you.

They will support your pads and will not cause any harm to your skin. Go for the soft and light ones, they won’t even feel like wearing them.

Perineal numbing spray and squeeze bottle:

You would need both of them if you had a vaginal delivery. They will be useful during the first week of the delivery at the hospital as well as at home. Your hospital may or may not provide them to you. You should have 2 or 3 in your bag.

The numbing spray is directly sprayed on the vaginal part to relieve pain and will help to heal the part. A squeeze bottle should be used after peeing. It will protect your part from soreness and pain.

Nursing tops and pads:

You definitely need a couple of nursing tops, especially at home. They should be comfortable as well as quick to change when the baby spits over them. On the other hand, you would need nursing pads after 2 days of the delivery. As the milk starts coming out after 2 days, it will get leaked if you skip nursing pads. They are placed inside the bra to stop milk from reaching the shirt/top. You can go for either washable ones or disposable pads.

Nipple cream

Last but not the least, you will need nipple cream. Moms who feed or pump the milk end up having sore nipples. It is especially very beneficial if you are having your first baby. As the nipples are not used to feeding, they will hurt during the first few days. So, you would need a soothing cream to relieve pain.
